Aberdeen is the 3rd largest city in Scotland with a population of approximately 220,000. The ‘Granite City’ serves as Scotland’s centre for oil and gas development in the North Sea – which supports over 50,000 jobs locally. Aberdeen has two Universities – the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University. Aberdeen ranks third in retail rankings with a vibrant high street retail sector complemented with newer shopping centres and retail parks.
Aberdeen also plays host to the well known Aberdeen Football Club.
The Aberdeen property market continues to be one of Scotland’s most buoyant property markets – both in terms of volume of sales and price levels. 2013 sales for Aberdeen totalled 5521 [up from 4629 (2012)] an increase of 16% year on year; and 2013 the average home price was £186,920 an increase of 4.5% year on year. This trend both in increasing sales volume and pricing is expected to continue (Registers of Scotland).
Aberdeen is served by a large number of estate agents – with solicitor estate agents involved in residential sales being the dominant group – including; Aberdeen Solicitors Property Centre (various Solicitors); Stronachs, Aberdeen Considine; Peterkins; and several others. On the letting side several non-solicitor firms tend to dominate the market.
